Canadian's OWN Freestyle Skiing!

Another tremendous day for Canada at the Freestyle venue, as Dara Howell took the gold and Kim Larmarre took the bronze in Women's Ski Slopestyle.

Dara Howell laid down an enormous first run of 94 points that was untouchable, and almost 9 points more than the next competitor.  It was spectacular, just like Alex Bilodeau's run in Moguls yesterday.

So far, Canada has taken 6 of the 9 medals awarded in Freestyle Skiing!  And, as of today, Canada is now second in the medal count with 9, behind Norway with 11, though both have 4 golds.

Today was also the start of individual Figure Skating events, leading off with the Pairs short program.  Canada has three terrific teams in this event, and all three qualified for the free program.

Paige Lawrence and Rudi Swiegers, skating in their first Olympics, and suffering from injuries this season, had a few problems but hung in there, scoring 6 points higher than their previous personal best to end up in 13th spot, and have an outside chance at cracking the top-ten with an outstanding free skate.

Kirsten Moore-Towers and Dylan Moscovitch were also fantastic, skating to music from the movie "Micmacs" (music to which NEXXICE Senior also skated in 2012).  Their death spiral has an unusual face-down position, and they were only awarded a level 1 for the element.  They sit in 6th, and will have to have a great free skate to have a shot at bronze.

Meagan Duhamel and Eric Radford skated a beautiful program, to music composed by Eric, and sit in 5th position after the short, within striking distance of the bronze medal.  Meagan had a few bobbles, nothing major, but it cost them on GOE, I'm sure.

Unfortunately, I don't think anybody is going to catch the Russian pair of Tatiana Volosozhar and Maxim Trankov who sit 4.5 points ahead of 2nd place team, Aliona Savchenko and Robin Szolkowy from Germany, and 9 points ahead of the 3rd place team.
